WHAT ARE THE MAIN OBJECTIONS TO PRAYER?

§ Here are some objections to prayer:

• I don’t have the time: I have other things to think about and do.
• I don’t have the desire: I just don’t feel like doing it.
• It is useless praying since it’s necessary to act.
• I cannot pray because I get frequently distracted, because my heart is arid and
incapable of praying.

§ Such objections and difficulties could be overcome:

• by deepening the meaning and value of authentic Christian prayer
• by praying and asking for God’s help
• by keeping in mind that prayer certainly supposes an effort and a struggle against ourselves, against the ensnares of the Devil, against erroneous conceptions and various mentalities which exist regarding prayer
• by growing in the virtues of humility, trust, perseverance and safeguarding the heart.
